Signal is great. Signal is also terrible. It's better than all the other popular ones.

The main source of vexation for @keithzg at least is the lack of multi-device support, which overlaps in annoyingness with a hostility to 3rd-party clients. To some degree that's eliminated by Signal-Desktop, but that's only available on x86 devices. The more mobile that could be pushed, the better . . .
